More Information:
In this one-day workshop, students will create a medium-sized planter using coil-building and sculpting techniques. The class will focus on constructing strong, functional forms while exploring ways to shape, refine, and personalize each planter through thoughtful design and hand-built details.
Participants will learn how to build vessels that are both beautiful and practical, with an emphasis on form, proportion, and the relationship between the planter and the plant it will eventually hold. There will be plenty of opportunity to introduce texture, sculptural elements, and individual style throughout the construction process.
An optional underglaze session will be available for adding color and surface interest. Students will also have the option to have their finished pieces fired at a lower temperature, allowing the clay to remain more porous and function like traditional terra cotta.
Students will leave class with their planters ready for drying and firing; finished pieces will be available for pickup approximately 3–4 weeks later.
