In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of slip casting, including preparing slip, pouring, de-molding, cleaning seam lines, and refining cast forms. Using a wide variety of both commercial and handmade molds, we will explore how to create sculptural elements and incorporate them into larger, cohesive artworks. Emphasis will be placed on altering and assembling modular components, blending technical proficiency with creative experimentation. Alongside a deep dive into the mechanics of slip casting, the course will cover key principles of sculpture, composition, and the interplay between utility and artistic expression.
