Join us at Ilwaco Cider Company for a free afternoon celebrating gloriously terrible writing! "A Dark and Stormy Night" is a Bulwer-Lytton style contest — the long-running literary tradition that challenges writers to craft the worst possible opening line to an imaginary novel. Named for the infamous "It was a dark and stormy night..." opener, this contest rewards over-the-top prose, groan-worthy puns, and melodrama cranked all the way up.
Entries are free and open to everyone — high school students and adults alike — and are due by November 1st. Submitted lines will be read aloud (anonymously) at the event, where a panel of judges will help crown the most wonderfully awful opener.
Whether you're a serious writer looking to flex some comic muscle or just want a fun, free, family-friendly afternoon, come cheer on the entries and enjoy cider at our taproom.
