More Information:
In this two-day workshop, students will create a functional ceramic casserole dish complete with a fitted lid using slab-building techniques. The class will focus on both form and function, with special attention given to creating a vessel that is durable, practical, and uniquely personal.
Day One will be dedicated to constructing the basic oval casserole form and creating a slumped lid that will dry overnight. Students will learn strategies for building strong, even forms while considering proportion and usability.
Day Two will focus on refinement and finishing. Participants will add a flange, fine-tune the fit of the lid, and add handles and decorative details that personalize the piece. The class will conclude with an underglaze session, providing an opportunity to introduce color, pattern, and surface design.
Students will leave class with their casseroles ready for drying and firing; finished pieces will be available for pickup approximately 3–4 weeks later.
