More Information:
In this one-day workshop, students will create a functional ceramic mug using slab construction and forming techniques. The class will focus on shaping comfortable, well-proportioned forms while considering how the body of a mug influences both its appearance and usability.
A significant portion of the workshop will be dedicated to handle design and construction. Participants will be introduced to a variety of handle-making methods and will learn how different handle shapes, sizes, and attachments affect the experience of using a cup. Demonstrations will cover attaching, refining, and integrating handles into the overall design so that form and function work together seamlessly.
The second half of class will be dedicated to underglaze application, allowing students to add color, pattern, and surface design that complements their finished mugs.
Students will leave class with their pieces ready for drying and firing; finished cups will be available for pickup approximately 3–4 weeks later.
