Dive into the dynamic and unpredictable world of salt firing in this multi-part workshop. The first meeting will be a lecture and demonstration session covering the effects, techniques, and strategies of salt firing. The class will explore how salt interacts with the kiln atmosphere, how salt application works during the firing process, and methods for achieving varied surface textures—with and without glaze.
Demonstrations will include the use of flashing slips, wadding techniques, and liner glaze approaches, along with practical guidance for preparing work specifically for the salt kiln.
Participants will gather to load the salt kiln 8/29 at David Campiche’s studio. The kiln will fire on 8/30 and unload on 8/31. Attendance at the loading, firing, and unloading is encouraged but not required if schedules do not allow.
Firing Fees
