In this one-day workshop, students will explore the art of kurinuki—transforming solid slab-built forms into richly textured, expressive vases. Through twisting, cutting, pressing, and pulling the clay, participants will carve into the surface to create dramatic contours that echo natural landscapes and frozen moments of movement. The focus will be on bold texture, dynamic form, and allowing the clay’s raw character to guide the final piece. Each vase will emerge as a sculptural yet functional object, shaped by both intention and instinct.
Students will leave class with their vases ready for drying and firing; finished pieces will be available for pickup approximately 3–4 weeks later.
