Using pre-made bone dry cups and tiles that the studio will provide, participants will learn the process of water etching.
Water etching is a subtractive pottery technique where shellac is painted on bone dry clay. Once the shellac is dry, the exposed clay is wiped away with a damp sponge. The eroded, unprotected areas recede, leaving the masked design as a tactile, raised relief.
We will also explore brush techniques in creating our designs as well as some basic design strategies.
