National Media Coverage Highlights Kite Festival, Coastal Towns, and Outdoor Recreation
WASHINGTON’S EVERGREEN COAST – August 2026 brought significant national and regional media attention to Washington’s Evergreen Coast, with coverage highlighting the Washington State International Kite Festival, scenic coastal communities, outdoor recreation, and unique Pacific Northwest experiences.
Leading the month’s coverage, TravelPulse featured the Washington State International Kite Festival in its roundup of top events across the United States. The festival also received substantial national attention from Travel and Tour World, which highlighted the 2026 celebration and its thousands of visitors, giant kites, and coastal setting.
The kite festival continued to generate widespread coverage throughout the month. Oregon Public Broadcasting spotlighted the event as a major Pacific Northwest tradition, while Hoodline highlighted the festival’s 45-year history and its ability to draw visitors to the Washington coast. Nomad Lawyer and Your Oregon News also featured the festival, showcasing Long Beach as the host community for one of the region’s most distinctive annual events.
Outdoor recreation and camping experiences were another major theme in August coverage. Men’s Journal featured Snow Peak Campfield in a personal camping story, highlighting the destination’s unique approach to outdoor hospitality. The Dyrt included a regional campground among its list of retro campgrounds that evoke the feeling of a classic road trip, further showcasing the Evergreen Coast as a destination for memorable overnight outdoor experiences.
Coastal travel also received national attention. Yahoo Travel included Pacific Northwest destinations in its roundup of West Coast beach towns for a scenic road trip, while KATS-FM highlighted Washington’s best coastal towns. KING-TV also featured the Evergreen Coast region in its roundup of things to do in Western Washington during the month.
The region’s natural environment and outdoor experiences also made headlines. Coverage from Yahoo and OutdoorHub focused on a rare 151-pound striped marlin caught off the Washington coast, with reports noting the possibility of a new Washington state record. The stories brought additional attention to the region’s fishing opportunities and rich marine environment.
Washington’s state parks also earned recognition during August, with KEYW-FM highlighting one of the state’s coastal parks in its coverage of notable Washington outdoor destinations.
From colorful skies filled with giant kites to scenic beaches, coastal towns, campgrounds, and world-class outdoor recreation, August’s media coverage continued to showcase Washington’s Evergreen Coast as a destination filled with distinctive experiences and Pacific Northwest adventure.
