Why Kayak Willapa Bay?

While many visitors know Washington’s Evergreen Coast for its beaches and world-class fishing, Willapa Bay remains one of the region’s best-kept secrets.

The Willapa Bay Water Trail winds through one of Washington’s most diverse coastal ecosystems. Expansive tidal flats, salt marshes, forested shorelines, and quiet estuaries create an ever-changing landscape that offers something new with every paddle. The bay’s protected waters are welcoming for beginner and intermediate paddlers while still providing plenty of opportunities for more experienced adventurers.

No two paddles are ever the same. Depending on the tides, weather, and season, you may find mirror-like water beneath blue skies or drift through a blanket of coastal fog with bald eagles soaring overhead.

It’s the kind of place where slowing down becomes part of the adventure.

Depending on the season, paddlers may spot:

Spring and fall migrations are especially exciting for birders, as thousands of birds stop in Willapa Bay during their seasonal journeys along the Pacific Flyway.

The quiet nature of kayaking allows visitors to experience wildlife without the noise of larger boats, creating intimate encounters that are difficult to find anywhere else.
